ATMs\/cash machines (\u201cbankomat\u201d in Polish) are plentiful in Warsaw, so you don\u2019t need to carry much cash with you. You can pay with all the popular debit or credit cards in most shops, but there are some places where either only cash is accepted or it is possible to pay with a card only if you spend more than 10 or 20 PLN. This practice is a legal grey area, sometimes seen in smaller shops.<\/p>\n<p>You can also exchange some money in a bank or money exchange (\u201ckantor\u201d in Polish) \u2013 you will find plenty of both in the city center.<\/p>\n<p>Note that some tourist-oriented places might accept EUR, but usually at a horrible rate (1 PLN = 1 EUR is not uncommon) \u2013 stick with PLN.<\/p>\n<h4>Power plugs<\/h4>\n<p>We use\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iec.ch\/worldplugs\/typeE.htm\">Type E power plugs<\/a> in Poland, so remember to bring an adapter if you use a different standard.<\/p>\n<h4>Tap water<\/h4>\n<p>Safe to drink, enjoy!<\/p>\n<h4>Food<\/h4>\n<p>Polish cuisine is highly acclaimed all over the world. Be sure to try some of our staples while you are here: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bigos\">bigos<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pierogi\">pierogi<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Go%C5%82%C4%85bki\">go\u0142\u0105bki<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Borscht\">barszcz<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C5%BBurek\">\u017curek<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cucumber_soup\">zupa og\u00f3rkowa<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n<h4>Language<\/h4>\n<p>Polish is a very tricky language, and learning it just for this trip might not be the most efficient use of your time. Fear not, though, as younger people generally know at least some English. There might be a problem with older (50+) folks, though. You could try Russian or German, if you know them.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, improvised sign language is universal.<\/p>\n<h4>Safety<\/h4>\n<p>Mind your belongings.
